A group of experienced entrepreneurs and investors have established an Angel investor network; “Spark Angels”, in the Durham – Northumberland region. The goal of Spark Angels is to enable high net worth individuals to work together to gain access to quality investment opportunities, spread risk, and collaborate on due diligence or mentoring of investee companies. The region is ripe for investment and members will enjoy rewards and other benefits, while having the opportunity to play an important role in the region’s economic growth.

The region’s economies are growing rapidly and becoming increasingly diversified, and the ecosystem necessary to accelerate this growth is largely in place. Anchored by a large energy and manufacturing presence, growth is being driven by innovative early-stage and growth companies in sectors such as energy and cleantech, information technology, specialty manufacturing, and other knowledge based industries.

In addition, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Durham College and other research institutions in the region are producing an increasingly entrepreneurial cohort of graduates, as well as creating innovative technologies and business applications for graduates to take to market.
